We are the Entlebuchers of Hollywood, California - Urban-Maximilian vom Chöpfli, and the Schädelzmatts; Il Duce, Jeneva, and Karma.
We are Entlebucher Sennenhunden; one of the Swiss Mountain Dog breeds that also includes the Appenzeller, Bernese, and the Greater Swiss. We were all originally farm dogs, born and bred in Western Switzerland.
Today, we are members of both the Schweizerischer Klub Für Entlebucher Sennenhunde (CH) and the National Entlebucher Mountain Dog Association - NEMDA (US) as we proudly share our heritage, community, and our dual 'citizenship'.
We are a rare breed, and not generally known, since Entlebucher Sennenhund numbers remain small worldwide. Our breed name reflects the fact that we originated in the valley of Entlebuch, a valley encompassing parts of the cantons of Berne and Lucerne, in Switzerland. We were originally bred to drive dairy cows from their farms to alpine pastures as well as carting their cheese and milk to the town market. We are herding dogs, watch dogs, and all purpose farm and working dogs.
Nowadays, we live steps away from the Sunset Strip, post letters on Melrose Ave, do shopping in Beverly Hills, and consider Malibu one of our favorite playgrounds. How did all this happen? Come along and find out!
